Composition of Teams

3.1 NCGA Coaching Policy

The following criteria are required to be met by the Head Coach and all Assistant Coaches:

  1. Complete a basic questionnaire on the NCGA registration website.

  2. Pay the NCGA coach’s registration fee on the NCGA website by Credit or Debit card.

  3. Have had a background check through the university in the last 2 years.

The following criteria are considered “best practices” that should also be met:

  1. Complete an online SafeSport Certification Course with USA Grappling.

  2. Have a current Basic Life Saving (BLS) and/or First Aid and CPR Certification.

  3. Be in good standing with the NCGA and member institutions as well as lacking a history of rules violations.

  4. Should attend practices on a regular basis, travel to events with the team, and must live within a reasonable distance from the school being coached.

3.2 Team Staff Composition

To share the duties of a member team, the following structure is recommended (at a minimum):

  1. Head Coach:

    Has the responsibility for scheduling events, monitoring practices, responsible for team conduct during competition, registering athletes online each year on the NCGA website, and submitting all required forms to the NCGA or Conference leadership. Head Coach is also responsible for uploading head shots of staff and all wrestlers.

    BLS and/or CPR / First Aid Training: All coaches, including volunteers, should be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Similarly, coaches and volunteers should be certified in basic first aid.

  2. Team Compliance Officer:

    Each team must have an individual (school staff or team member) who is responsible for monitoring the rules and regulations of the NCGA, NCAA and other eligibility requirements of their institution.
